BMW i5

Upgrades

• The i5 swaps the 5 Series (G60) petrol and diesel engines for an electric drive (eDrive40 rear-wheel drive, M60 xDrive 601 hp).
• The eDrive40 reaches around 580 km of WLTP range on a charge.
• DC fast-charging up to 205 kW adds a lot of range in a short time.
• It shares the CLAR platform and iDrive 8.5 with the combustion 5 Series.

Fixes

• The combustion 5 Series’ CO₂ emissions are gone entirely.
• The 5 Series engine and gearbox noise was replaced by a near-silent drive.
• The combustion 5 Series’ turbo and gearbox lag — the i5 pulls instantly.
• The 5 Series’ fuel consumption — the i5 runs electric and cheaper to use.

The i5 comes as the eDrive40 (rear-wheel drive) and M60 xDrive (all-wheel drive), with around 500–580 km of range.
