The G20 is the 3 Series back at its best: composed handling, a genuinely premium cabin and a range of efficient petrol, diesel and plug-in-hybrid engines.

Upgrades

Up to 55 kg lighter and around 25% stiffer than the F30 thanks to the CLAR platform.
Lift-related dampers became standard and markedly improve ride comfort.
The wheelbase grew to 2,851 mm (+41 mm) for more rear legroom.
iDrive 7 with a 12.3-inch digital cluster and 10.25-inch touchscreen replaced the old system.

Fixes

Steering was the F30’s genuine weak point; the G20’s rack is sharper and far more communicative.
BMW finally took cabin quiet seriously — the G20 hushes the road and wind roar that plagued the F30.
Rear passengers no longer ride knees-up: the G20’s longer wheelbase finally delivers usable rear legroom.
iDrive 7 replaces the F30’s dated system with a proper, modern interface.

Engine & drivetrain

The 330e plug-in hybrid pairs a 2.0-litre petrol engine with an electric motor and a battery for around 60 km of electric range. It’s ideal if you can charge at home and want very low running costs, with the petrol engine there for longer trips.

Driving

Rear-wheel drive and 50:50 weight distribution deliver the classic agile BMW balance. The G20 feels composed yet sharp, with steering that finally communicates properly again.

The 330e is the pick for commuters who can charge at home: most daily driving happens on electricity.
