The X3 (G01) — BMW’s sharp-handling SUV, now more comfortable and tech-rich.

The G01 kept the X3’s driver-focused handling while adding comfort, refinement and a genuinely premium cabin, with efficient petrol, diesel and plug-in-hybrid engines.

Upgrades

Up to 55 kg lighter than the F25 thanks to the CLAR platform.
New B47/B48/B57/B58 engines replaced the N47/N20/N55/N57.
The wheelbase grew to 2,864 mm (+54 mm) for more rear legroom.
iDrive 6/7 with a larger touchscreen replaced the older system.

Fixes

The F25’s so-so interior quality — the G01 feels genuinely premium.
Lower consumption than the F25.
More rear legroom than the F25.
iDrive 7 replaced the F25’s older infotainment.

Engine & drivetrain

The petrol range runs from the efficient 2.0-litre B48 four-cylinder (xDrive20i, xDrive30i) to the muscular 3.0-litre B58 straight-six (M40i). The 8-speed Steptronic automatic is superb.

Handling & practicality

The G01 is rare among SUVs: it’s genuinely good to drive, with sharp steering and strong grip, yet also practical, with a big boot and comfortable rear seats.
