The diesel range runs from the frugal 1.5-litre three-cylinder (16d) to the superb 2.0-litre four-cylinder (18d, 20d and 25d). The 2.0-litre B47 is the engine to have: strong low-down torque, excellent economy and a reputation for big-mileage reliability. The Steptronic automatic shifts silky-smoothly and suits the diesel’s relaxed character perfectly.
