Engine & drivetrain

The diesel range runs from the frugal 1.5-litre three-cylinder (116d) to the superb 2.0-litre B47 four-cylinder (118d and 120d). The crisp 6-speed manual keeps the price down and makes the most of the diesel’s torque.

Handling

The F40 is agile and easy, with the familiar BMW quality in a compact package. Front-wheel drive brings more cabin space and lower running costs without dulling the driving experience.
