Garage Chalmet, a well-known name in the Belgian car sector, has a rich history dating back to 1976. This family business, founded by Freddy Chalmet and Jeanine Verstocken, started modestly in the Groenstraat in Wachtebeke, East Flanders.

Founding and growth

In 1976 Freddy Chalmet started the garage in the Groenstraat in Wachtebeke as a side business, representing the LADA brand. On 1 May 1981 Freddy and Jeanine went full-time in their own garage at Langelede 19, where they began distributing Datsun, later Nissan. The garage grew into an official Nissan dealership with a showroom, workshop and offices.

The second generation

In 1993 the children Nathalie and Christoph Chalmet opened a new Nissan branch in Dendermonde. When Freddy and Jeanine retired in 2009, the Wachtebeke site continued as Garage Chalmet, now multi-brand, with the slogan 'Strong in every brand! Strong in every job!'.

Today: the third generation

Garage Chalmet is now run by Christoph Chalmet and his wife Karin. Their children Jill and Robbe are also active: Jill manages the sales department and Robbe focuses on the workshop. With nearly half a century of experience, Garage Chalmet remains a household name in the car world.
